Communications and Marketing Coordinator (Part-Time)

Pay Scale: $18-22 per hour

Hours: 20 hours a week expected

The Athens Homeless Coalition is seeking an innovative and passionate Communications and Marketing Coordinator to lead our efforts in raising awareness, promoting collaboration, and sharing our impact within the community. This part-time position (20 hours/week) is crucial in effectively communicating the complexities of homelessness, highlighting the work of local agencies, and showcasing the Athens Homeless Coalition's innovative strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and Implement Communications Strategy: Create and execute a comprehensive communications plan that effectively conveys the Athens Homeless Coalition's mission, vision, and impact to diverse audiences, including community members, stakeholders, and policymakers. The Athens Homeless Coalition has already produced a brand playbook that this would be based on.

  • Content Creation and Management:

  • Generate engaging and informative content across various platforms (website, social media, newsletters, press releases, reports) about the overall topic of homelessness, its causes, and its effects.

  • Highlight the vital work being done by various agencies in Athens to address homelessness.

  • Promote and explain the new Athens Coordinated Entry Tool, emphasizing its benefits and how it streamlines access to services.

  • Showcase the organization's meaningful engagement with people with lived experience, sharing their stories and contributions respectfully and ethically.

  • Articulate the Athens Homeless Coalition's strategic approach to reducing and preventing homelessness in Athens, including the efforts related to the flexible housing fund.

  • Social Media Management: Develop and manage social media content calendars, post regularly, engage with followers, and monitor analytics to optimize performance.

  • Website Content Management: Ensure the Athens Homeless Coalition's website is up-to-date with relevant information, success stories, and resources.

  • Media Relations: Cultivate relationships with local media outlets, prepare press releases, and facilitate interviews to ensure positive and accurate coverage of the Coalition's work.

  • Newsletter Development: Design, write, and distribute regular email newsletters to keep subscribers informed about updates, events, and initiatives.

  • Event Promotion: Support the promotion of Athens Homeless Coalition events and fundraising campaigns.

  • Brand Consistency: Ensure all communications adhere to the Athens Homeless Coalition's brand guidelines and messaging.

  • Reporting: Track and report on key communication and marketing metrics to assess effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in communications, marketing, public relations, or a related field.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into clear and compelling messages.

  • Proficiency in social media management platforms and content creation tools.

  • Experience with Squarespace is a plus.

  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

  • Empathy, sensitivity, and a commitment to ethical storytelling, especially when working with vulnerable populations.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field, and/or equivalent relevant experience.

Schedule:

  • Part-time: 20 hours per week, flexible scheduling to be determined with the successful candidate. Some evening or weekend work may be required for events.
